Dad’s to raise money for physical and mental wellness

Logan local and father to three daughters, Jason Meed will be competing at the Logan’s Fittest Dad Classic event in Meadowbrook this Sunday to set an example for his kids.

“I can show my girls that being healthy should be part of your everyday routine,” Mr Meed said.

One hundred other dads from all over Queensland are expected to join Mr Meed on the day. Many of them are not fitness junkies or CrossFit pros but enthusiastic dads or casual gym goers that organisers have encouraged to get involved.

Part of the proceeds from the event will support Sana Days, a Queensland-based men’s mental health charity which champions exercising for mental health benefits.

The event, an all-dads fitness competition, without age restrictions, will be a Australian first.

No other competition like it has been held, the organisers said.

“This is more than a competition, it’s also a celebration of fatherhood, community, and health,” organisers said.

“With the goal of recognising how important fitness is for men, and especially for dads, this ground breaking competition has the motto Fatherhood & Fitness.”

Scores will be averaged from three weightlifting events – a power clean, bench press and overhead squat – to determine the competition winner.

Former CrossFit Games competitor Adam Mansey, who is from the Gold Coast and can lift 167kg from the floor to his shoulders, will be tough to beat.

Family and friends are invited by organisers to watch and cheer on the dads. Food trucks and other vendors will be available for attendees.

The event will be held on Sunday, 14 September at CrossFit Iron Bar in Meadowbrook.
