Community grant funds social support services in Logan

THREE organisations in Logan have received ten thousand dollars in grant funding to boost operations.

Logan Wildlife Association received $2500 while Onwards & Upwards and Impact Care Services both received $3750 in grant money.

Logan Wildlife Association, an environmental organisation based in Logan Central, was founded in 2023 by wildlife activists with the aim of setting up a wildlife hospital in the Logan area.

President of LWA, Chris Gauthier, said the organisation would use the grant money to buy equipment to transport injured wildlife to care centres.

“The Flourish Community Grant will allow our organisation to purchase koala transportation crates, veterinary scales and other equipment which will help us facilitate the rescue and rehabilitation of local wildlife,” Mr Gauthier said.

“This grant provides further avenues for our organisation to support the animals that come through our network, and we are grateful to Cedar Woods for this critical funding which allows us to continue and expand our work.”

Onwards & Upwards, also known as Flagstone Foodshare, was established in 2020 and provides groceries to an average of 60 families per week living in Logan suburbs of South Maclean, North Maclean, Jimboomba and Flagstone.

Director, Tammy Cinzio, said the grant money would be used to provide food and fuel to community members in need.

“This grant will cover the cost of our food hampers for people in emergency situations, providing them with a week’s worth of food and a voucher for five free clothing items from our op-shop,” Ms Cinzio said.

“A portion of the funds will also go towards fuel vouchers, which we’ve always wanted to give out on a regular basis but haven’t been able to afford.”

Based in Slacks Creek and Jimboomba, Impact Care Services provides social support services to people navigating mental health challenges or family transitions. Their grant money will be used to fund the delivery of mental health services locally.

This year is the first time grants have been awarded to Logan businesses, Cedar Woods Property Development, the organisation responsible for the grants, director Blair Britton said.

“For the first time, we have awarded $10,000 in grants to three community organisations whose work strengthens South Maclean and the surrounding areas,” Mr Britton said.

“We’re proud to give back and thank those who support our Flourish residents to feel at home in a community that makes a difference.”
