Justis Huni made light work of opponent Shaun Potgieter last night, knocking the South African out in round two on the Gold Coast.
Huni’s latest win takes his record to 12-0 and moved him into the top 5 of the World Boxing Organisation heavyweight rankings.
The fight finished in round 2, similar to his previous fight in December and Huni wants to keep “staying active”.
“I’m continuing to get better every time I step out here, so the more active I am, the better I’ll get,” he said.
“I was in the ring no longer then my last fight, and to be back here on a card like this, it’s massive for my career and moving forward.”
Huni hopes to make it back to the ring as soon as possible but said he “has some injuries to take care of”.
“As soon as possible, I’ll be back in the ring,” he said.
“I’ll leave it up to my team, you know. They’ve done a good job with me so far, so, yeah.”
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn praised Huni on his performances over the last three months.
“The strength and conditioning team have done a great job; you can see the body changing as well,” he said.
“The speed’s back, the confidence is back. Like he said, get over a little injury, you’ll see him back in a few months.”
The sky is the limit for Huni, with a potential heavyweight title fight in the distance for the Logan boxer.
“Just have to keep moving up the governing bodies rankings. I think a fight between Moses Itauma and Justis would be a tremendous fight for two tremendous young heavyweights,” Mr Hearn said.
“We need to position him for a shot at the world heavyweight title. And when it comes, we want to deliver it right here in Australia.”
