For two decades Frederik and Sandra Otte have enjoyed watching thunderstorms hit the Gold Coast from the balcony of their Shailer Park home.
But last December Mr Otte was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, forcing the Otte’s to sell their beloved Jasmine Crescent home.
“It’s a fantastic area, we wouldn’t be selling if it wasn’t for my husband’s health,” Mrs Otte said.
“He’s able to move around, it’s just his speech, and of course he’s getting weaker as his disease takes over more.
“It’s heartbreaking that we have to sell the house.”
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home is perched on a 1700sqm block with some of the most expansive views in Logan.
Mrs Otte said these views are what she would miss most about the home.
“Especially when we have lightning and thunder out there – the thunderstorms look absolutely amazing,” she said.
“On New Year’s Ever you can see the fireworks from Sea World.
“We can see the Q1 and Soul from here at our place on a clear day.”
The home spans multiple levels and has room for even more underneath.
“There’s a big car space under the house which can be used as a big men’s shed,” Mrs Otte said.
“Further down there’s a big, open space my husband dug out.
“We wanted to put a theatre room in there, but never got round to it.”
Now the couple is making sure they take in all the views while they’re still there.
“You just can’t beat these views,” Mrs Otte said.
“When you’re in the pool, you can just lie there and look out over the beautiful views.”
The house also features a built-in timber bar and lounge area next to the mid-level balcony.
Plus, the main bedroom comes with its own balcony, along with ensuite and walk-in robe.
The Otte’s emigrated from New Zealand 23 years ago and rented for one year before finding 39 Jasmine Crescent.
Mrs Otte said the property would suit families with young to teenage children chasing a peaceful and relaxing lifestyle.
