Three teenagers have been linked to the alleged theft of a car from Yarrabilba late last month.
Police allege the car was stolen on 28 July, and located several days later on 3 August during a specialist police deployment that saw more than 260 people arrested.
That day, police said they charged a 15-year-old boy in relation to the incident and dealt with a 12-year-old boy under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
Today police said a second teenager, a 17-year-old male, was charged over the incident.
“Further investigations lead police to attend a Logan property on August 16, where Taskforce Guardian engaged with the 17-year-old boy and his caregivers,” a police statement said.
“He has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and learner driver must be supervised and was expected to appear before Beenleigh Children’s Court on August 19.”
In a video released by police, officers can be seen speaking with the 17-year-old and his caregiver.
“If you take someone’s life, you’ve got to live with that till the end of days,” one officer told the boy.
Another officer said: “It shows you how quickly things can get out of hand.”
“Especially when other people get involved, and other people are in the driver’s seat, you’ve got no control, you can’t keep yourself safe.”
