A candlelight vigil to remember those impacted by domestic and family violence will be held at the Logan Entertainment Centre on Wednesday (1 May).
Logan City’s commemoration of Queensland’s Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month (DFVPM) will also see local council’s administration building at Logan Central, as well as three water towers at Underwood, Shailer Park and Hillcrest, illuminated purple throughout May.
Mayor Jon Raven invited the community to take part in the candlelight vigil.
“We saw how many people took part in rallies around Australia over the weekend calling for change,” Cr Raven said.
“Data shows one in four women over the age of 15 have experienced violence from an intimate partner.
“Here in Logan, we want to make it clear that we stand firmly against domestic and family violence in all its forms.”
He said the vigil was about “us all coming together in support of those who currently experience it or have experienced it in the past”.
“On Wednesday we want to also remember those who have tragically lost their lives, as well as their loved ones left behind,” Cr Raven said.
“Council is committed to educating the community and will continue working with key partners to spread the message that domestic and family violence will not be tolerated.”
The vigil will be held on the forecourt of the Logan Entertainment Centre in Logan Central from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
