Logan crooners vie for stardom

Eight of Logan’s finest singers will take to the stage this month for the inaugural Rise Up Singing Competition grand final.

Only one future star will take home the $5000 cash prize and industry training.

Each competitor will perform a song – anything from soul, to rock, to R&B – in front of three judges and a live audience at Club Noir in Loganholme.

Audiences might recognise one finalist, Caleb Parr, who appeared on the latest season of Australian Idol.

Creator of the Rise Up competition and the founder and principal vocal coach at Performance Studios, Lisa Lockland-Bell, said the finalist’s showed immense talent.

“Our judges were blown away by the level of talent on display and it was a struggle to choose the grand finalists,” Ms Lockland-Bell said.

“It is an absolute privilege to welcome these artists to our venue and offer them the opportunity to perform in front of a supportive live audience.”

The first round of the competition saw performers submit recorded auditions that were judged by vocal coach Mindy Pack.

Based in the US, Ms Pack gained popularity in the industry working with high-profile artists like Justin Timberlake, Lil Nas X and Miley Cyrus.

Ms Pack chose 17 singers to progress through to the semi-finalists, who performed in front of a live audience and judges – Australian musicians Adam Lopez and Gregory Moore – last month.

The judges of the grand final are Triple M breakfast show host Margaux Parker, television presenter and ‘Mr Hollywood in Oz’ Damien Anthony Avery-Rossi, and president of Logan 101FM Mike Bennett.

“As well as providing artists the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of a live audience, the Rise Up Singing Competition exposes them to the music industry and allows them to connect with major players,” Ms Lockland-Bell said.

“With Performance Studios now in its third year, we are pleased to be establishing ourselves as leaders in vocal development and embedding ourselves into the local community.”

The Rise Up grand finalists are:

  • Ryden Camara

  • Ramil Dinapo
