Science behind our amazing schools

We are fortunate to have amazing schools, teachers and students in our electorate.

Marsden State High School was named best public school in the country at the acclaimed Australian Education Awards last year, and principal Andrew Peach was named top public school principal.

Indeed, Marsden State High was finalist in a record nine out of 25 categories.

Beenleigh State School won multiple prizes at same awards. A stellar year was topped off when the Courier-Mail named four students from Beenleigh State High and Marsden State High on their list of the top high school students for 2020.

In awarding Marsden State High Secondary School of the Year, the judges said: ‘The commitment to learning and results this school has achieved across all areas demonstrates a commitment to excellence and an aspiration for all students to be provided with the best and achieve the best.’

It’s this commitment to excellence that the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science are looking for. These are Australia’s most prestigious awards for outstanding achievement in science teaching.

Two prizes are awarded to primary and secondary school teachers – so if you know an outstanding science, maths or technology teacher you can nominate them. Each winner will receive $50,000 in prize money.

Nominating is easy – all you need is:

  • A willing nominee who is a registered primary or secondary school teacher working full-time or part-time
  • A copy of their CV
  • A 750-word summary of their achievement addressing the merit criteria
  • Details of two supporters

Nominations close 9 March.
