Time to celebrate another successful year

At this time of year it is important that we make time to celebrate with those around us.

Whether you observe Bodhi Day (Buddhism – December 8), Hanukkah (Judaism – December 7 to 15), the Martyrdom (Shahidi) of Guru Tegh Bahadur (Sikhism – December 17), or Christmas (Christianity – December 25) to name just a few celebrations, this time of year brings the community together to reflect on the year that was.

As Mayor, it always brings me great pleasure to join the community in spreading the holiday spirit at events across the city.

Council’s Community Event Funding Program supports a host of festive events, including the Beenleigh Business and Tourism Association’s Dickens Christmas on Friday, December 8, and the Bethania Community Christmas Party on Saturday, December 16.

One event that has become a perennial favourite on the calendar for our community is the annual City of Logan Christmas Carols.

This year, the Carols will be presented at the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct on Saturday, December 9 from 2pm until 8pm.

Mitch Tambo (Australia’s Got Talent, Eurovision), Jonathan Welch (Choir of Hard Knocks founder), and Danielle Matthews (The Voice Australia) will join talented local choirs and dance groups to lead the audience in song as part of a dazzling Christmas show on the outdoor stage from 3pm.

A special Christmas-themed PAW Patrol performance at 5.45pm, as well as photos with Santa, free face painting and a colouring-in competition, will capture the imagination of even the youngest of carollers.

A selection of food trucks will also be on hand, serving up a festive feast for the whole family.

Residents of all abilities can join the festive celebrations with an on-stage Auslan interpreter, specially printed programs for those who are vision-impaired, a hearing loop and a dedicated quiet zone.

A spectacular fireworks display at 8pm will close a fantastic night of free entertainment.

If you’re planning on coming along, please note that parking is limited at the KBF Cultural Precinct.

It is recommended that patrons use our free shuttle bus return service which will operate between the Logan Entertainment Centre and the event site from 2pm.

So, gather your friends and family, pack a picnic, and join us at the Kingston Butter Factory on Saturday, December 9 to spread the Christmas cheer.
