Waitlist patients skip queue

Logan residents on waitlists for elective surgery and specialist outpatient appointments may soon find they’ve skipped the queue.

Queensland hospitals are seeing more specialist outpatients and elective surgery patients than before the COVID-19 pandemic, with 18.6 per cent and 2.4 per cent improvements compared to COVID levels, respectively.

Minister for health, mental health, and ambulance services and member for Waterford, Shannon Fentiman, said the uptick comes from the injection of $224 million in funding as part of the Surgery Connect and Planned Care Recovery program.

She said the program “increased capacity in the public system, and partnered with private providers” to help Queenslanders get access to the care they need sooner.
