As the saying goes ‘inspiration is everywhere’, and our city is bursting with stories of inspirational
community members.
They are the local heroes who show up and dedicate their time to others, often without reward or
recognition.
In January, we will have the opportunity to recognise some of these outstanding citizens at our annual
City of Logan Australia Day Awards.
It’s a moment to celebrate their extraordinary achievements and reflect on their significant
contributions to our city and community.
During my mayoral term, I have taken great pride in presenting the Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year to two deserving community members.
Our 2023 Citizen of the Year was Rachel Simpkin-Bale, who has dedicated the past 30 years of her life to advocating against domestic violence and supporting women in the community.
Through her work on a range of community projects, Rachel has positively impacted the lives of
countless women and girls in Logan and beyond.
Her passion to create positive change in the community is shared by our 2023 Young Citizen of the Year, Amelia Ayris.
A dedicated advocate for child safety, Amelia is a member of the child protection advocate Bravehearts
Youth Advisory Committee and has delivered keynote addresses at a local and national level on child
safety.
There are countless community members just like Rachel and Amelia who are making invaluable
contributions to our city each and every day.
Now is your chance to recognise your local champion who is making a difference.
Nominations for our 2024 City of Logan Australia Day Awards are now open on the Logan City Council
website (logan.qld.gov.au), and close on Friday, November 17 at 5pm.
The winners will be announced at the City of Logan Australia Day Awards on Friday, January 26, 2024.
I encourage everyone to take the time to nominate a community hero who deserves to be recognised at
our Australia Day Awards next year
