Logan’s diverse Stories from the Kitchen cuisine program has been renewed after a successful two-year run.
Originally hosted by Logan City Council, the popular program, allowing people to share their culture through food, will now be led by the community at Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre.
During its first run between July 2021 and June 2023, 260 people attended 10 dinners across Logan, serving 140 different dishes.
The aim of the program was to highlight Logan’s diversity, with 234 different nationalities represented in the city, as well as spark connections and friendships to reduce social isolation.
The next dinner is on Saturday 19 August, from 5pm to 7.30pm.
Attendees have been asked to bring a dish from their culture and stories to share. Wearing traditional outfits is encouraged.
Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre manager, Cheryl Bown, said the centre would continue to help put a spotlight on the extraordinary cultures and people that make up the community.
“Our hope is that in doing this we will be able to learn more about what makes our cultures unique and what brings them together,” she said.
Local Councillor Karen Murphy said the Stories from the Kitchen program brought together people from diverse backgrounds to share their stories and experiences over delicious homemade food.
“It has been well embraced by the community and I am sure that enthusiasm will continue at Beenleigh,” Cr Murphy said.
