Climb with the koalas

Loganholme youngsters can climb high with the koalas later this year when construction on a giant koala play tower is complete.

The near five-metre-tall play tower is the latest addition to $6.34 million series of upgrades underway at Alexander Clark Park.

Other additions and refurbishments to hit the park includes water play equipment, a flying fox, slides, swings, a children’s bike track, park shelters, shade sails, park furniture and a sensory garden.

Council said the park would also receive a new entrance, additional parking and new boardwalks by 2024.

Even further in the future, the park is planned to receive an active sports area with basketball and volleyball courts, a handball court, a multi-purpose open space, additional parking, a new toilet block and upgrades to existing walking tracks.

Councillor Miriam Stemp helped to turn the sod on the project and said it was exciting to watch the koala play tower be installed at the park.

“This custom-designed koala will be watching over the main playground and will be a focal point of Alexander Clark Park for many years to come,” Cr Stemp said.

Lifestyle chair councillor Tony Hall said it was great to see the project underway.

“I’m sure park users and local residents are enjoying seeing the construction of the new elements and looking forward to it being completed,” Cr Hall said.
