You call for a ‘newspaper-like’ product

Research released to editors prior to Christmas tells us that you want your news delivered in a newspaper-like format, easy to navigate – something familiar.

We already produce an online version of MyCity Logan, which we initially thought would be for those unable to locate a physical edition of the paper.

It’s interesting to note that while some people say they like the look and feel of a tangible product, it’s not just the physicality of a newspaper which provides the attraction.

People say flipping through the pages of a curated product, something that is professionally put together for a targeted audience (in our case, the City of Logan), is important.

For some, that doesn’t matter whether it’s a traditional newspaper, or a digital version of that newspaper.

From this week, we’ll be aiming to provide a richer experience within our digital version of the newspaper. We’ll be experimenting with functionality to give you improved access to content.

We know what technology is capable of. We now need to explore what we’re capable of within the time constraints we have.

One thing you will see first is that from the digital version of the newspaper, you will be able to click through directly to the websites of our advertisers – that is, for those that have them.

In short, we realise that it is our job as your community newspaper to make our news accessible to as many people as possible, via whatever means people deem user-friendly and convenient.
