Two Logan schools will receive new multi-purpose halls from the Palaszczuk Government’s $2.08 billion investment in state school infrastructure in 2023-24.
New double court halls will be built at Browns Plains State High School and Woodridge State High Schools to bolster the schools’ facilities.
Minister for Treaty, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Minister for Communities and Minister for the Arts and State Member for Algester Leeanne Enoch MP and I went to Browns Plains State High School on Wednesday to meet with Principal Ben Ward and school leaders to talk about the new hall.
Mr Ward was happy to hear the school and local community would receive a new hall as we watched the students rehearsing for their multicultural performance evening.
I also visited Woodridge State High School and was met by Principal Kathleen Janecek and school leaders at their current hall.
As well as receiving a new double court hall, the existing hall at Woodridge State High School will be refurbished.
These great schools already provide a wonderful education for Logan children, and I am proud to be a part of a government which invests in improving the facilities so teachers and students can strive for even more.
These new halls will expand the possibilities for children to play whether it is in sport or the arts.
There is clear evidence that involvement in sport and arts provides more positive avenues for our young people.
The halls will also provide amazing spaces for the schools to build on their already outstanding school culture.
Member for Algester Leanne Enoch said the new hall would allow Browns Plains State High to continue its legacy of achieving great sport and arts outcomes.
“Browns Plains State High School has long supported great sports and arts outcomes for students and this new double court hall will be a valuable asset for even greater achievements into the future,” she said.
“This investment in local schools ensures that students can continue to access world-class facilities and education here in Logan.”
The investment is a key initiative of the Palaszczuk Government’s $259 million new halls, extension of existing halls, and new covered areas program.
The Schools Hall Program will be delivered to support a number of key Queensland government policies including my department’s Equity and Excellence strategy and Buy Queensland 2023 creating up to 662 local jobs and producing local benefits.
Construction of the double court multi-purpose halls is expected to start in the middle of 2024 and completed in the second half of 2025.
