Urge to amp up gel blaster laws

Calls have emerged for Queensland’s gel blaster laws to increase after “string of armed robberies”, including ones in Logan.

Last week a group of teens, three of whom are from Logan, allegedly robbed stores across Logan, Brisbane and the Gold Coast with gel blasters.

In March, an Eagleby woman allegedly fired a gel blaster at another vehicle while driving on the M1.

In February, an 18-year-old pizza delivery guy was robbed at gunpoint by a 21-year-old with a gel blaster, who stole the worker’s car.

Similar events also occurred last year, and are continuing to happen throughout the state.

It’s a serious concern for members of the public when they’re being confronted by those offenders when they’re used and committing serious offences, once again, not knowing whether that weapon is real or otherwise,” Queensland Police assistant commissioner George Marchesini said.
“It’s going to pose a significant risk.”
