Logan budget wins – Shannon Fentiman MP

With a new financial year comes exciting opportunities for everyone, which is why I’m excited to say the Queensland State Budget has fantastic news for every person in our community.

We know that the pressure of cost-of-living is increasing, so look out for the $550 energy rebate for every household on your next power bill.

Better yet, local pensioners will be eligible for a $1,072 energy rebate.

It’s great to see the good news for families too, with the historical announcement that kindergarten will be free for Queensland families.

Families in Logan will be saving an incredible average of $4,600.

We have already seen amazing results in early-childhood development outcomes during the first phase of the Free Kindy program.

This shows us how critical Kindy is for little Queenslanders.

By taking the next step and removing the financial burden of Kindy altogether, we will be providing positive, long-term outcomes for Queensland children and giving them the best possible start in life.

Another local win was officially opening the new maternity ward and patient transit hub at Logan Hospital.

The Transit Care Hub provides a smooth transition from admission to discharge, which will free up emergency beds.

It was amazing to have the opportunity to tour these new additions and meet with the nurses and midwives who always work hard for our community.

I am especially proud of the new maternity suites that will offer eight birthing baths and private bathrooms; they have been built with mothers in mind.

Along with these upgrades, Logan Hospital will also receive ten special care cribs, so that little ones who need more intensive care, can get it closer to home.

I’ve had so many locals tell me how excited they are to give birth at logan with these upgraded facilities.

These improvements are just a small part of our larger investment of more than $1 billion into Logan Hospital, which is supporting over 1,290 local construction jobs.

Investing in our healthcare network is a key part of the Palaszczuk Government’s budget; health spending has increased by 9.6 per cent this year.

Logan has certainly had some big wins in this year’s Queensland State Budget.
