Logan may be set to shine on the state government dime if latest budget promises come to fruition.
On top of a pledge for free kindy, energy rebates and social housing, the latest state government budget promises key funding for local projects.
Among the largest investments in Logan includes $1.4 billion towards infrastructure and capital works, which the government claims will support 4100 jobs.
Croydon Road and its adjoining intersections, including the area in front of Woodridge train station, will be getting $519,000 from the state government for an upgrade.
M1 upgrades between Daisy Hill and the Logan Motorway will get a $32 million boost and, as the government already announced, $10 million will be put towards the relocation of Loganlea train station.
The state government will put $240 million towards the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project, and $127.7 million dedicated to upgrading and improving local schools.
This includes $882,000 for Park Ridge State High School and $534,000 for Flagstone State School to build new learning spaces.
Logan libraries will see $1.7 million by 2024, and a $280,000 boost to deliver a family literacy initiative, First 5 Forever.
Logan Together, an organisation dedicated to reducing the rate of disadvantaged children in Logan, has been promised $750,000 of state-funding.
Initiatives include $3.4 billion towards Metro South Hospital and Health Service, $50.1 million for expanding and improving social housing and $6.4 million towards homeless services.
Logan’s digital infrastructure will also be getting a $1.3 million boost – enhancing both quality and coverage.
Other projects include:
- $891,000 towards Logan Gardens’ new pedestrian and cycle shared path;
- $951,500 towards the design, construction and fit-out of the Logan Riverine Discovery Centre in Eagleby;
- $500,000 for new kitchen facilities at Beenleigh Rum Distillery; andÂ
- $2 million for road projections in the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area.
The budget also re-announced projects like the 200-megawatt Greenbank battery (capable of powering 60,000 homes for two hours each evening) and funding for the expansion of Logan Hospital.
