At 75-77 Boulia Street, Greenbank, everything is “at your fingertips” even though it feels as like a rural property.
The owners, Karlie and Kenny Easter, bought the property nine years ago and their three young children have spent their formative years there.
But with their kids growing up – one starting full-time work and another starting university – the Easters’ have decided to move on.
All five of them are moving into an apartment in the heart of Brisbane – a big change for people who say they love the “peace and quiet”.
Mrs Easter said it was the right decision to put the house on the market, but it wasn’t an easy one.
“It’s a really tough decision,” Mrs Easter said.
“The home has been awesome for our family, but our son now goes to school in the city, our daughter just started uni at QUT, and our eldest daughter just got a full-time job nursing at Greenslopes Hospital.
“So, our whole life has moved to the city.”
She said her family made many happy memories in their Greenbank home, but it was time for another family to do the same.
“It’s a really big home, so a multi-generational family like ours would be a great fit,” she said.
The large property has a granny-flat out the back that Mrs Easter’s mum lives in.
When they move, her mum will be going to a retirement village.
Mrs Easter said they’ve spent “heaps of time and money” renovating the property from “head to toe”.
“We’ve spent the last two years renovating,” she said.
“We’ve got all new roof tiles, we’ve painted the entire house, we’ve put floorboards throughout the house, and we’ve replaced things like the fencing – we’ve got Colourbond fencing now.
“We’ve just made it all new again.”
One thing they haven’t changed is the wire fencing down the side of the property neighbouring an open parkland.
“We haven’t replaced the see-through wire fencing because otherwise you’d feel closed in,” Mrs Easter said.
“It’s like you own all that property and someone else looks after it.
“With the park beside you, it’s like you live in the middle of nowhere, even though you’re so central to everything- everything is at your fingertips.”
She said living at that home, feeling like she had no neighbours while the shops were “just down the road”, gave her the best of both worlds.
