The Slacks Track pathway in Slacks Creek has received its latest upgrade with the install of a 35-metre bridge.
The 30-tonne bridge was lifted in last Friday and will carry a 2.5-metre-wide pathway to connect Reserve Park and Rowland Street.
The project, managed by Logan City council, aims to provide a faster and more scenic commute to Slacks Creek’s industrial and commercial precinct.
The local councillor for Slacks Creek, Mindy Russell, said she was excited to walk the bridge when it opens in July.
“It will open up so much opportunity for Logan residents to get around the city without a car,” Cr Russell said.
“I loved watching it get installed, along with some of the excited local community.
“It was fascinating viewing.”
According to a council statement, installing the bridge was a “challenging and complex operation” that required expert handling.
Infrastructure chairperson, Teresa Lane, said the bridge would have a variety of benefits.
“This bridge is going to benefit people of all abilities,” Cr Lane said.
“Council is proud to have played a big part in designing and delivering this project.”
Ultimately, the Slacks Track extension will provide a connection to the Veloway (V1) into Brisbane.
The $4.2 million pathway for cyclists and pedestrians is funded by local council, and the state and federal governments.
Council’s contribution includes $100,000 from the Division 3 (which covers Slacks Creek) Local Infrastructure Program, as well as $350,536 from the Queensland government and $2.7 million from the Australian government.
