Average Aussies forgotten in Budget – Bert van Manen MP

Today marks one week since the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Treasurer Jim Chalmers handed down their second Federal Budget, and it is already obvious that families in Forde are going to be worse off under Labor.

If you are a single household family with a mortgage, already struggling with the rising cost of living, then I’m sorry to say that there is not much in this Federal Budget for you.

Despite Mr. Albanese and Mr. Chalmers promising no one would be left behind, their latest Federal Budget says otherwise.

Most Australians and the more than 75% of households in Forde who are already struggling, still cannot make ends meet, and life is not getting any easier for them day to day.

Under the Albanese Labor Government, the average family with two kids will be around $25,000 worse off.

In 2021, the average household mortgage in Logan was around $1729 per month.

Now, in 2023, that amount has approximately $2500 per month.

So, the benefit that you’d receive from the federal budget does not even cover one months’ worth of additional repayments on your mortgage…

It also appears that in the Federal Budget, there has been no funding allocation for local projects in the Forde Electorate.

Despite asking the Treasurer last month for funding for a range of community and sporting projects, it is disappointing that they have been put on the back burner, with absolutely no mention of funding for any road or infrastructure projects, many of which are desperately needed.

Some projects that are going to miss federal funding from this latest budget announcement include:

Upgrade M1 Motorway Exit 38 (Yatala) – $55 Million

Upgrade the Beenleigh Tennis Club – $5 Million

Upgrade Beenleigh’s Hammel Park Sport Precinct – $3.6 Million

Installation of CCTV Cameras across Logan Council Area – $1 Million

Upgraded changerooms at the Beenleigh Buffaloes AFL Club – $500,000

Lighting Upgrade for Ormeau Bulldogs AFL Club – $250,000

During Budget in Reply, Peter Dutton outlined our plan for a stronger economy and a stronger Australia.

Under a Coalition Government, we would incentivise unemployed Australians to take up work by increasing how much they can earn before Job Seeker is reduced.

We would restore the number of Medicare-subsidised psychological sessions from 10 to 20.

We’d provide $4 million of funding for Ovarian Cancer Australia and undertake a review of women’s health items available through Medicare and the PBS.

We would impose more obligations on big digital companies to stop scams and fraud.

And under a Coalition Government, we would also work hard to ban gambling advertising during sports broadcasts, for an hour each side of the game.

They are our promises to you.

The Federal Budget has again failed to deliver for the average Australian Family who is already struggling with skyrocketing rents and rising cost of living.

Why do we always pay more under Labor?
