Magpies make permanent nest in Logan

The Souths Logan Magpies have built their new nest in Logan after years spent roosting in Brisbane.

Logan Metro Sports Park will now be the home ground of the Magpies thanks to a new partnership between Logan City Council and Queensland Rugby League (QRL).

“It’s such an exciting moment, as a coach and as a team,” head coach and rugby veteran Karmichael Hunt said.

“It’s a great facility for us as a community club, and a semi-professional one, to have all this field space.”

The main field at the Logan Metro Sports Park is almost as large as the one at Suncorp Stadium.

“All good things come to those who wait,” QRL CEO Rohan Sawyer said.

Mr Sawyer said the QRL are looking forward to building a strong and long lasting partnership with Logan City Council.

He also recognised the importance of rugby in Logan and the stars it had produced – including Cameron Smith, Corey Parker and Tallisha Harden.

The Logan Metro Sports Park grounds would also be home to the Brown Plains Bears RLFC.

“The future is here for us,” Logan mayor Darren Power said.

“Here is the starting point for something bigger.

Mr Power alluded to future development of the facilities at the park.

“I know politicians in this city want to see something bigger… they want to see grandstands,” Cr Power said.

For now the Magpies are focusing on maintaining their success and, as Mr Power said, building “the next generation of rugby league legends.”

“We are a city of future champions,” he said.
