Sporting success of the financial kind

The Local Sporting Champions program is just one of the fantastic initiatives that we have in the Forde electorate.

This program provides financial assistance for not only sporting coaches, but sporting officials and sporting competitors who are between the ages of 12-17.

The program assists up-and-coming sporting stars to attend either state, national or international competitions.

It’s designed to support sports people through their teenage years, easing the financial burden on their families.

Playing sport is so important for children. It helps to develop their patience and helps them understand that it can take a lot of practice to improve their physical skills over a period of time.

It has been very exciting for me as the Member for Forde to announce several recipients of the Local Sporting Champions program this week.

These include recipients from Greenbank, Holmview, Buccan, Windaroo, Ormeau, Mount Warren Park, Cornubia, Upper Coomera, Shailer Park, Beenleigh and Loganholme.

My sincere congratulations go to Alyssa Littler of Greenbank, Kasey Brown of Cornubia and Lachlan Reed of Shailer Park who are just three of over 15 recipients, all who have been successful recipients of Round 3 grant funding.

Alyssa Littler, 17, who attends Clairvaux Mackillop College has been successful in achieving a $700 Grant for her upcoming swimming competition at the national open water swim championships.

Kasey Brown, 16, from Chisholm Catholic College walked away with $500 towards her Netball Queensland state age competition.

And Lachlan Reed of Rochedale State High School will receive $600 to help towards his attendance at the Australian Youth Championships.

I am immensely proud of these young achievers, all who have been juggling not only their schoolwork, but their home lives alongside their sporting commitments.

The Round 3 Nominations have resulted in constituents of the Forde electorate walking away with over $8800 in sporting grants supporting the cost of attending their upcoming championships.

It’s simply a fantastic achievement.

I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone who has been successful across the country.
