Road work aims to bust traffic congestion

The City of Logan is improving its road network with a record investment in infrastructure to bust congestion and improve connectivity.

Council is working tirelessly to provide vital road infrastructure to cater for future population growth, expected to reach 530,000 by 2036.

We want to connect people to jobs and help ensure that parents and carers are safely getting children to schools.

To accommodate growth in a smart and innovative city, roads infrastructure is paramount and a main priority for council.

It guides good planning decisions, connects communities and ultimately makes our roads safer.

In council’s recent residents’ survey, roads and traffic were identified as areas of concern.

It’s an unrelenting task and I understand the frustration from those impacted residents when road works are underway.

We are still being hit by the ripple effects from the floods which devasted our roads and communities 12 months ago.

There was more than $10 million flood damage that will take years to repair, and we ask for patience.

Other external factors remain beyond Council’s control.

This includes delays in the supply and manufacturing by up to 12 months of steel and reinforced concrete products.

Council is waiting for advice on funding applications to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.

If successful we can undertake a major repair program that will be more than just filling potholes.

In the meantime, we’ll continue to monitor roads and undertake immediate repairs as required.

The good news is that council has completed almost $60 million in road infrastructure projects in the first six months of the 2022-23 financial year and is on track for its biggest roads capital works program in history.

The list of road rehabilitation projects throughout the whole of council is significant. These proactive projects help maintain our road network at a sustainable level.

You will see major upgrades across the city, including Loganlea Road and Mundoolun Road, and master drainage projects progressing in Eagleby.

The six-lane Loganlea Road upgrade from University Drive to Pacific Motorway is significant and one that council committed to in last year’s budget.

From Springwood to Jimboomba, there is work happening and council will soon release further detail regarding these city-wide works.

Improving the way we get around is not just about the roads we drive on, but also about footpath upgrades, fixing up bus stops and updating cycleways.

Please be patient when you are experiencing delays in road works and be considerate to your fellow motorists.

It is short-term pain, for long-term gain.

Also pause to think about the road workers and those operating machinery who are working long shifts to get the work done.

They too want to return home safely to their families and loved ones.
