Christmas means many different things to many people. From friends and family to food and laughter there are many wonderful things about Christmas, however it can be a challenging time for some in our community.
Two years ago, during the pandemic, we introduced the Mayor’s Christmas Barbecue as way of giving back to the community.
It was just one way we could share the magic of Christmas with those people doing it tough.
I’m glad to say it has now become an annual event and we held our third one on Friday evening at the Kingston Butter Factory.
Once again council was supported by our corporate partners who made a significant contribution to the toy drive.
Without their help it wouldn’t have been possible to deliver the presents we did. We were also kindly supported by the Mt Lindesay Ulyssess Branch who donated gifts from their own Twilight Toy Run.
Because of the overwhelming support, not only was everyone able to receive a gift on the night, but it also meant there were many more distributed to kids across the city who couldn’t be there.
So, thank you to the wonderful charity organisations who were able to extend the generosity beyond Friday.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend due to a case of Covid. I’m grateful to my fellow councillors who stepped in at last minute to make sure the celebrations continued. From all accounts I heard it was a wonderful night with lots of smiling faces and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
This Saturday is a fantastic opportunity to get in the festive spirit at the City of Logan Christmas Carols to be held at Griffith University’s Logan Campus.
This is another great night out and a good opportunity to come together with family and friends.
With the festive season in full-swing I know for me the gift of giving is something I really value at Christmas. I encourage everyone to take a moment and think about what you may be able to give in the spirit of Christmas this year.
