CBD with outdoor living

Developers across the Logan region are increasingly tapping into home buyer and builder demand for outdoor living.

However, they’re also seeing a need for CBD-style hubs which service new neighbourhoods.

It explains the success of large, master-planned land developments, particularly those in the western growth corridor of Logan.

Peet chief executive officer Brendan Gore, who oversees the development of master-planned community Flagstone, said the trend has increased since the Covid pandemic.

“There is a growing preference across Southeast Queensland for connected community living combined with outdoor lifestyles,” he said.

“This trend has only increased further throughout the last two years of the pandemic and as flexible working options have become a mainstay for many.

“We are seeing a lot of families seeking the convenience and access of living near a city centre, but without sacrificing the ability to escape into the open space.”

For that very reason, Mr Gore said Flagstone is capturing the attention of not only locals, but also interstate residents.

“We are finding that people are wanting to be connected, living close to big city hubs, but also having everything that they need on their doorstep with accessibility to an outer-city lifestyle,” he said.

“That has always been the driving vision behind Flagstone – to provide the convenience of city living combined with the close-knit community, space, and outdoor lifestyle opportunities.”

So far, Peet has invested more than $20 million on parks and outdoor spaces for the Flagstone development.

“Flagstone Parklands has been developed over 10 hectares, offering entertainment for all ages, featuring one of the biggest adventure playgrounds in Southeast Queensland, an interactive water play park, competition-grade skate plaza and one of the state’s first splash and play dog parks,” Mr Gore said.

And just like Logan’s Yarrabilba development, Flagstone is set to get much bigger.

One of the key attractions is expected to be a future central shopping district.

Once complete, the urban heart of  the suburb is expected to cover 126 hectares, with 44,000sqm of retail space and 58,000sqm of office space, with a proposed interstate rail service running through the middle.

“Looking at the big picture, it’s not hard to see why Flagstone is turning the heads of smart homebuyers and savvy investors,” says the sales pitch on their website.

“A centrepiece of the wider region, the CBD at Flagstone will be home to every kind of business – from dazzling bars to light manufacturing, and medical, to educational, research and technology, even employment services. And let’s not forget the shopping, dining, and entertainment offering. It will be a city in the truest sense, buzzing 16 hours a day.”
Mr Gore said: “Greater Flagstone is now one of the biggest new residential areas in Australia, attracting more than 20 new families to Peet’s Flagstone City every month.

“There is still a lot to come.

“Flagstone is a 30-year project and upon completion, the 1245-hectare Flagstone City development will provide 12,000 homes, 330 hectares of greenspace, and a 126-hectare CBD, with plans for a future hospital, tertiary campus, train station, district and regional sports precinct, leisure centre and Civic Centre.”
