THE Greening Jimboomba project has delivered its next round of graduates.
The state government project has delivered trainees with a Certificate 1 in Conservation and Ecosystem Management.
“They have worked on planting native species, improving sites and supported the operation of the Jimboomba Community Garden,” Logan MP Linus Power said.
“In their course trainees are learning important skills while gaining experience and confidence.
“On top of this, their efforts during the recovery from the floods also provided great benefits to the community in its’ time of need, which we are extremely thankful for.”
Jimboomba resident Gary Lomax joined the Greening Jimboomba traineeship after making the decision to return to work following his retirement many years ago.
Mr Lomax said the program gave him the ability to interact and learn alongside a wide variety of people.
“The program has stimulated my mind and kept me mentally active. It was also a privilege to be able to pass on some of my lessons learnt to the younger members of the traineeship.”
With his newfound knowledge and understanding, Gary will continue to make contributions to the community through volunteer and paid work outcomes.
He has made an application for a volunteer position at Beaucare Beaudesert and has registered with Conservation Volunteers Australia.
