LOGAN is persisting with plans to develop what tech visionaries are calling our very own Silicon Valley.
The cliche has been used before, and the success of Go1 is often touted as proof the Logan technology dream is possible.
The edu-tech giant delivers an online training program to someone in the world every three seconds.
Drone delivery service Wing is another Logan success story, along with textile recycling giant BlockTexx – a clean technology company which recovers polyester and cellulose from textiles and clothing.
Imaging Solutions manufactures cutting edge radiation protection and other medical products.
So far, only Go1 is in the precinct some Logan councillors are determined to develop as an “innovation precinct” in Underwood and Slacks Creek.
The building which houses Go1, council’s coLab Growth Hub, was an early win. But the challenge is to take things to the next level.
To do that, the city would have to attract cutting-edge industries including:
• Aeronautical engineering
• Biotechnology industries
• Medical laboratories
• Computer component manufacturing
• Computer server facilities
• Energy industries
The proposed precinct, adjacent to the Logan and Kingston roads intersection, is near the M1 and the South East Busway extension.
Councillor Jon Raven said the precinct could launch a new era for the city’s workers as many of the targeted industries offer high-end salaries and contract work.
Councillor Mindy Russell said high-paying employment opportunities would be a spin-off, as would supply chain opportunities for existing businesses.
