Not yet sure of my role in opposition

The transition of power following last week’s Federal Election is well underway and I am preparing for life in Opposition. While I was able to hold onto my position as the Federal Member for Forde, unfortunately the Liberal National Party was not returned to office.

As you all know, a lot of promises are made during an election campaign, and voters in Logan and northern Gold Coast received their fair share during the six week period. I will now be writing to the new Government to ask them to match the funding commitments that I made to local sports and community groups throughout the campaign.

I assure you, I will be keeping a close eye on Labor’s election pledges, to ensure all those deserving groups who were promised funds get their money. The LNP will also be holding the government accountable on behalf of the Australian public. Labor made many grand statements while trying to get into office, now it is time for them to deliver.

Any change of government must take its natural course, which can be a complicated and sometimes lengthy process. That said, the new Prime Minister appears to be working quickly to take the reins of government and has already taken his first overseas trip. This week the new Ministers should be named and then we can begin to organise our line-up.

I still do not know what my exact role will be, but I assure you whatever it is, I will be continuing to work hard to get the best deal for my constituents, whether you voted for me or not, across Logan and the northern Gold Coast.

Finally, I want to assure you my office and myself are here to serve you. If there is any issue that we can help you with, please telephone us during business hours on 3807 6340 or email: bert.vanmanen.mp@aph.gov.au
