As I move around our local community, one thing keeps coming up again and again; the fact that everything seems to be going up except people’s pay.

Under Scott Morrison and the current Liberal National Government, we are experiencing a full blown cost of living crisis. Costs of living are skyrocketing, interest rates are rising and real wages are going backwards.

That’s why Australian Labor has an Economic Plan which is geared towards dealing with those challenges and getting the economy and wages growing the right way, without adding to inflation.

First, we will invest in cleaner and cheaper energy through our Powering Australia policy to cut power bills by $275 a year by 2025 and create over 600,000 jobs.

Second, we will invest in cheaper child care which will reduce cost pressures for over 9,500 families in our local community and make is easier for working families to work more and earn more.

Third, we will better train our workforce through fee-free TAFE and more university places to address skills shortages. We’ve also made a $2.3 million commitment to fund clinical laboratory spaces at the Loganlea TAFE Campus. These commitments will equip locals with the skills they need to grab higher-wage opportunities.

Fourth, we will create a Future Made in Australia by supporting local manufacturing and industry, creating more secure jobs.

And fifth, we will protect Medicare. We will ensure residents have access to bulk-billing doctors by delivering a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in Logan and slash the costs of medications under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

The current Liberal National government under Scott Morrison either doesn’t understand or doesn’t care about the cost of living pressures facing local working families.

Labor does understand and we do care. That’s why we’ve got a plan to do something about it here in our local community.

A vote for Labor is a vote for a better future.
