With 47 years of dedicated service to the community under their belt, the members of Quota Beenleigh were joined by community guests earlier this month in a celebration in style.
President Margaret George said the annual dinner was a joint celebration to:
- Acknowledge and show appreciation for the club leaders from 2019-2020 (this event had been delayed due to COVID)
- Welcome the new club leaders and 7 new members – such was the enthusiasm on the night, that they added another 2 members to their midst
- Showcase the work of the Junior Quota clubs and induct their leaders for 2020
- Celebrate the club’s 47th birthday – the club has been active since September 1973
- Provide funds from Junior and Senior Clubs to local schools, projects and charities
Brad Jardine spoke passionately about the work of Hear for You who provide workshops and mentoring for deaf or hard of hearing teenagers.
Ms George said a raffle was run during the evening and the club was delighted to present Mr Jardine with the proceeds, a cheque for $500.
Charlotte Mowbray, a Year 10 student at the Queensland Academy for Creative Industries, entertained guests with musical theatre.
The theme for the evening was “emerging butterflies” and member Chris Newton painted butterflies on canvas for each of the tables – they raised more than $300, which is on its way to a local charity.
“While 2020 has been a very different year for the club and its members, unable to continue with all of its signature projects such as the annual Eisteddfod, QuoCKa reading and many others – the club and its members have managed to thrive and grow,” Ms George said.
During the last 12 months, funds and resources have been provided to – Beenleigh Special School, Beenleigh Senior Citizens Centre, Café Edge, Eagleby State School, Eagleby South State School, Emergency Services, Logan Hospital, Mater Mothers Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Sewing for Charity Australia, STAAR, Waterford West State School, NightLight, Quota Cares cupboards at local high schools, and stationery packs to local primary schools.
At the end of 2019, Beenleigh Quota recognised 100 Women of Note as part of their 100 Days of Kindness Program, in recognition of the work these women had done to improve our community. And, the big project that has continued during 2020 is the QuoCKa Reading Outreach program which has now supplied 10,000 books to primary schools.
“Not a bad result for a cohort of just 34 passionate women,” Ms George said.
