He’s only been around for a decade, but Patrick Meszaros has already made a big impact.
For a couple of years, Patrick has donated Lego vehicles to hundreds of sick children stuck in hospital over Christmas.
This year, the Shailer Park altruist is on track to smash his record with more than 200 personally designed and crafted Lego sets.
But he’s not stopping there. Patrick has decided to also gift his Lego creations all year round and to other vulnerable children – because it’s not only sick children at Christmas who need presents.
“Children that just need that little thing rather than waiting till Christmas – it will put a smile on their face all year round,” Patrick’s mother, Nerida, said.
“So that’s why he’s really keen.”
Until recently, Patrick was funding the Lego gifts using his own pocket money. But nowadays he can keep his spare change, with the community becoming a reliable source of donations.
“A lot of the people have given him boxes of just mixed Lego – little bricks and bits and pieces,” Ms Meszaros said.
“I think it gave him some encouragement because he was like, ‘oh, okay, this is like a little bit of an incentive for me’.
“He has always been very generous. He’s one of a kind.”
Patrick was first inspired to gift Lego when he watched Louie Naumovski from the Logan House Fire Support Network speak on the news about a family who had lost everything in a house fire just before Christmas in 2022.
So Patrick gave some of his own Lego creations to the children who had lost their toys.
Since then, his generosity has only grown.
In 2022, Patrick built and donated 50 Lego vehicles to the Logan House Fire Support Network.
In 2023, he created 62 vehicles for patients at Logan Children’s Hospital so they could receive a gift on Christmas Day.
And last year, he donated more than 100 vehicles to Logan Hospital and an emergency services toy run – a new personal best.
Now he is well on his way for an even bigger 2025, making four sets a week to reach his goal of 200 vehicles.
