A bunch of chefs, including the apprentice, were having a bit of fun before last Australia Day.
They’d been tasked with creating something distinctly Australian for celebrations at Club Beenleigh.
One joked that there should be a lamington involved.
“Let’s make it a burger,” quipped another.
And so it went from there, the creation of the lamington burger – two beef patties, bacon and cheese with mustard and sauce, packed inside two bun-size lamingtons.
It’s the second time the lamington will be making its way onto the Australia Day menu at the Bull n Barra, the club’s restaurant.
The Aussie sweet and savoury mix made its debut in honour of our national day last year.
Management tells us they didn’t sell a lot, but the novelty was too much for some to resist.
Maybe it’s a classic case of being able to have your cake and eat it too?
