When someone has to leave an unsafe home, they rarely need only one kind of help.
They may need somewhere to sleep, money for a bond, legal advice, help keeping their children safe and a way to rebuild their income — often all at once.
Yet in the middle of a crisis, they can still be left trying to work out which door to knock on.
YFS, formerly known as Youth and Family Service, says that confusion can make support harder to reach.
After more than 40 years in Logan, the organisation has adopted “Your Future Story” as a refreshed public identity and launched a redesigned website intended to provide a clearer pathway to its housing, domestic and family violence, legal, financial, youth and employment services.
Chief executive Christopher John said the organisation’s growth had not always been matched by public understanding of what it provided.
“Over time, we’ve grown into a broad and integrated organisation but the way we’ve been understood hasn’t always kept pace,” Mr John said.
“This process gave us the opportunity to listen to our community, our team members and our partners and to reflect on how we can communicate more clearly.
“What we heard was consistent, that the work is valued, but not always fully visible, and that can make it harder for people to find the support they need.”
The refreshed identity does not change the organisation’s staff, services or role in the community.
Instead, the organisation says it is intended to provide a clearer entry point for people whose circumstances cross several parts of the support system.
YFS chief impact officer Ash Simpson said people’s lives rarely fitted neatly within a single service category.
“Your Future Story reinforces YFS’ role in helping people navigate systems that can often feel complex or fragmented, bringing together support in a way that is clear, coordinated and responsive,” Ms Simpson said.
“Because people’s lives don’t fit into categories, the way support is delivered shouldn’t either.”
Mr John said the new website was designed to help residents identify and reach the right service more easily.
“Your Future Story reflects a simple truth, that every person shapes their own path forward, and our role is to walk alongside them as they navigate what comes next,” he said.
“Alongside this, we’ve introduced a new website to make it easier for people to find their way to the right support.”
The refreshed identity is already appearing across the organisation’s website and signs, with publications and other resources to transition over the coming months.
The organisation also operates Substation33, a social enterprise providing training and employment pathways for the community.
Information about YFS services and how to seek support is available through its website.
