Yarrabilba to take on ninja warrior training

Families in Yarrabilba will get a rare chance to learn from a real Australian Ninja Warrior when professional obstacle racer Emma Teede visits Billuberra Ninja Park on Saturday 7 December.

The free workshop, organised by Reclink Australia in partnership with Stockland, is part of the developer’s Hello Neighbour program – an initiative designed to get locals outdoors, discovering nearby parks and connecting with each other.

Reclink senior sports coordinator Stacey Cooper said the event was created for the growing number of young families in Yarrabilba.

“There are lots of young families out there and lots of different green spaces that people may or may not know about,” Ms Cooper said.

“The park we’re using actually has a custom-built nature-play, Ninja Warrior-type playground, and at this point I don’t think anyone really knows it’s there or knows how to use it.”

To change that, Ms Cooper said they’re bringing in a specialist who can show kids – and adults – how to safely conquer the equipment.

Ms Teede, known as “Australian Wonder Woman” on Ninja Warrior, is an obstacle racer and, according to Reclink, the only qualified obstacle-racing coach in Queensland.

She said the sport was rapidly evolving and becoming a genuine athletic pathway.

“We want to make it a recognised sport and it actually is going to be part of the LA Olympics,” Ms Teede said.

“It did a demo at the last Olympics and will be coming to the Brisbane Olympics as well.”

For Ms Teede, the session is as much about building resilience as it is about fun.

“My main passion is helping humans overcome the brain rot with computers and phones these days,” she said.

Saturday’s session will include demonstrations, safety guidance, obstacle skills and a chance for kids to try challenges for themselves.

The workshop runs 10am–12pm on 7 December at 40-46 Hyde Drive, Yarrabilba, and is open to locals aged 4 to 70.

“It’s perfect for all ages and fitness levels,” Ms Cooper said. “Anyone can come down, meet new people and give it a go.”
