Yarrabilba’s Coles has reopened after a fire caused significant smoke damage to the store in the early hours of Wednesday morning, prompting an ongoing investigation.
Police said they were called to Wongawallan Drive at about 1.10am on 8 April, after flames were seen coming from a locked storage area attached to the main Coles store.
Police said the fire then spread into the roof cavity, which caused significant smoke to enter and damage the main store’s interior.
The Queensland Fire Department said four crews responded to the fire, which they extinguished by 1.40am.
Police said they believed the fire was deliberately lit.
The site was sealed off while specialists examined how the fire started and who may be responsible.
Police have asked anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have dashcam footage from Wongawallan Drive in the early hours of Wednesday, to come forward.
The supermarket remained closed for two days after the incident, with flyers posted outside telling customers they would remain closed until further notice.
For many locals, the nearest option during the closure was Woolworths in Logan Village, about 4.7 kilometres away.
The Coles store reopened on Friday 10 April.
MyCity Logan contacted Coles Media for comment, but did not receive a response before publication.
