Woman ‘hit from behind’ with mobility scooter

Police are ready to continue court proceedings, alleging a man, 52, hit a woman from behind with his mobility scooter near Beenleigh Railway Station.

But they want witnesses to come forward, and it would seem there were a number of people who saw it.

Police allege the woman, 62 from Ormeau, was walking along the footpath on Alamein St at around 4.20pm, when she was struck from behind by the man driving the mobility scooter.

It will be further alleged the vehicle and driver did not stop after the woman was hit.

Emergency services attended the scene and transported the woman to Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious hip, arm and neck injuries.

Police inquiries led to a 52-year-old Beenleigh man being charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and possess utensils.

He is next due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on November 3.

Police investigations indicate there were numerous members of the public who witnessed the incident, including those who rendered immediate first aid to the woman.

Anyone with information in relation to the incident is urged to contact police.
