Wild backyard fun

The Australian Institute of Play is launching a “community backyard” in Yarrabilba this week.

The backyard will be a space for local children to socialise and play with one another – on their terms.

CEO Hyahno Moser said the backyard was a free space that breeds imagination, creativity, adventure and fun – all under the supervision of qualified playworkers.

“It operates by the three ‘frees’: it doesn’t cost you anything, you can do what you want while you’re there, and you’re free to come and go as you please,” Mr Moser said.

“It super engaging and interesting because it offers them so much opportunity – they know it was designed for them and they can do what they want there.

“Because nothing is bolted down and they can shape the space they want, it opens up a world of possibilities.”

The launch is this Friday 14 June from 3-4.30pm.

There will be a free sausage sizzle.

Multiple play sessions will be held from: 9-10.30am, 11.30am-1pm, and 2-3pm on Saturday 15 June.

Numbers are limited due to supervision ratios, so RSVP via the Yarrabilba Community Backyard & Loose Parts Play Space Facebook page.
