When to expect your $175 cost-of-living rebate

The affordability of our energy and electricity is so important, not just for our future, but in managing the household budgets of today.

Because we know that every dollar counts for Queenslanders.

Recent global events have left many Australian states and territories vulnerable.

The energy market operator has rightly pointed to rising global fuel prices, such as oil, coal and gas, for pushing up our wholesale power prices.

In 2022-23, the market authorities forecast price rises of $165 for SEQ. That’s the first increase in four years, and it would have hurt.

Knowing this, the Premier and I acted on delivering $175 in cost of living relief off the electricity bills of Queenslanders–

The sixth ownership rebate in four years.

You should expect to see the $175 Cost of Living Rebate appear on those bills that include August 31.

All of this is possible, in Queensland under Labor.

Because with our Labor government, Queenslanders own and control their own energy system, not overseas shareholders.

This puts billions of dollars back where it belongs – into the pockets of Queenslanders.

Labor’s investments will be of most help to people who are disadvantaged; people who need help from rising prices; people who were left behind by the previous government in Canberra.

Because we know affordable, reliable power is critical to Queenslanders.

Right now, we’re working on an energy plan for Queensland that will set us up to deliver three times as much energy with cheaper, QLD-made electricity.

We’ll build whole new energy generation industries in hydrogen, wind, solar, and hydroelectricity.

We’ll power the world’s economy by decarbonising our exports.

And, we’ll create tens of thousands of jobs and careers in new energy generation, storage, and transmission.

If we can do all this, we’ll create more jobs in more industries, be a global leader in clean energy and resources, and deliver cheaper power bills for all Queenslanders.

It won’t be easy, but our plan will take action now to set us up on our journey from national to global leadership.
