What’s the real reason for closing our pool?

A mountain of questions have been asked but unanswered as we Eagleby residents do our best to see through the opaque ruling of the council to shut down our long-serving community pool.

This is a well-loved asset that is very well utilised by the public despite some comments by decision makers saying otherwise, who are likely drawing stats from Covid era and winter closures.

The one confusing answer that we can find is that it is closing due to an accident back in February of this year where a cleaner touched a powerline with a pole and was electrocuted and taken to hospital with burns to his hands.

Firstly, the WHS investigation needs to focus on whether or not proper measures were taken to avoid touching a very high powerline.

Second, this line, which sits near one small section of one of the two pools (the smaller paddling pool,) can relatively easily be insulated, even by erecting a shade underneath.

Five of the 12 councillors voted to keep it open so telling us that it’s not viable doesn’t sit right unless those votes were smoke in mirror votes to save face.

What is the truth behind this decision?

Eagleby has thousands more residents than two suburbs receiving multi-million dollar upgrades to their pools (Springwood and Beenleigh).

We have nothing against those upgrades but have to wonder if our pool is being shut down to divert money in those directions.

Why were the debates about our pool held behind closed doors?

The option to shut the pool was ‘Option 4’. What were the other three options?

Did any of the councillors who voted to close the pool actually visit the site, speak to and survey us residents before making their decision?
