Watch: Moment Logan home “deliberately” set on fire

Video surveillance showing what police say appears to be a man lighting a fire outside a Heritage Park home has been released.

Police allege the arson is linked the attempted robbery of a neighbouring property the week earlier.

Emergency services were called to the Kelsal Court house fire at around 9.30am on Saturday 20 July, police said in a statement.

“The property was significantly damaged by the deliberately lit fire. No one was home at the time of the fire,” the statement said.

The CCTV released by police shows a man arriving at the property in a white Toyota Corolla hatchback.

He can then be seen walking from the car to the home while carrying what police say is a green jerry can.

“Moments later smoke and fire can be seen coming from the building as the man runs back to the vehicle and drives off,” police said.

Investigations into the attempted robbery of a neighbouring property nine days earlier has so far led to two arrests.

Police allege three men were involved in total.

A 26-year-old man, who police allege is a member of the Comanchero OMCG, was arrested on 24 August a following the execution of a search warrant at a unit complex in Broadbeach.

“During the search police located ammunition, a large sum of cash and drugs,” police said.

He was charged with: attempted enter dwelling with intent by break at night whilst armed in company damages property, affray, disturbing religious worship/assault officiator, possessing dangerous drugs, dealing in proceeds of crime worth $10,000 or more, authority required to possess explosives.

Police later found a “concealed loaded firearm and large amounts of cash” inside a car that was seized from the Broadbeach property during the search warrant, and the 26-year-old was re-arrested.

A 30-year-old man,who is also an alleged member of the Comanchero OMCG, was arrested on 11 August and charged with: attempted enter dwelling with intent by break at night whilst armed in company damages property and unlicenced driving.

Police are continuing to investigate and are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to two incidents to contact police.
