Voices for a common goal at Beenleigh High

By Matthew Morgan – Principal of Beenleigh State High School

Student voice through leadership lays the foundation for Beenleigh State High School students to feel connected with purpose and develop a sense of responsibility and accountability to achieving a common goal.

Our students have a desire to care and aspire to excellence in their life.

Beenleigh High provides the platform for students to hone their personal qualities through communication, decision making, problem-solving and resolving conflict.

It’s wonderful to see this year’s student leaders highlight the importance of taking responsibility and developing a sense of accountability to ensuring the actions they model are a positive influence to fellow students and more broadly, the school community.

In the words of School Captain – Aimy

As captain of Beenleigh State High School, I want to leave behind a legacy of community pride, a school where all students are proud to showcase where they attend whether it be through wearing our full school uniform, participating in school events, attending school every day and achieving with an optimistic spirit for life.

Our school has so much to be proud of, whether it be through our specialist programs and the inclusive approach we take to learning every day.

Our teachers are incredibly supportive and show great care and commitment to teaching students.

I want everyone to feel, see and know that the learning culture of Beenleigh High has great influence in the lives of all students.

Louis – My commitment to captaincy means to lead students and influence the decisions they take to achieving successful pathways beyond the gates of school.

It is important as a leader to instil the motto of our school – Semper Altiora (to aim higher).

I want to leave behind a legacy where our school is recognised and seen for the diversity and multicultural heritage that exists and provides a richness to how we work together and understand each other.

The fostering of teamwork and collaboration skills enables our students to seek to understand and problem solve together, setting plans for others to follow and shine a light on the pursuit of excellence in all that we do.

Our student leaders model the values of the school, ‘we care, we are responsible, we achieve.’

Schools are an energising place for the next generation of critical thinkers and it’s wonderful to work alongside students who take courage in their lives and build confidence in their ability to contribute in community for the benefit of all.
