The 40-year-old man shot by police at Logan Central on Wednesday 25 October was wanted for several “serious offences” and charged at officers with a hammer, according to police.
Police were allegedly attempting to arrest the man at around 1pm on Croydon Road Logan Central, when he hit a police officer with a hammer and threatened others with a screwdriver.
The man was then shot by police.
“Immediate first aid and CPR were provided, and the man was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition,” Queensland police said in a statement.
“A crime scene has been established at the address while police investigations continue.
“This matter is under investigation by Ethical Standards Command.”
The man remains in hospital in a stable condition.
“All body worn camera footage available will be reviewed and form part of the investigation,” police said.
“This investigation into the incident is subject to the oversight of the Crime and Corruption Commission.
“The QPS including senior officers from Logan District, First Nations and Ethical Standards Command have met with family and Elders today (27 October).”
The man is expected to be charged with one count each of seriously assaulting a police officer, obstructing police, and acts intended to resist/prevent lawful arrest.
He is also expected to be charged with:
- four counts of acts intended to resist/prevent lawful arrest,
- four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle,
- six counts of enter premises to commit indictable offence,
- three counts of threatening violence,
- two counts of threatening violence (DV offence),
- two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed (DV offence),
- two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm (DV offence),
- two counts of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence,
- two counts of fail to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash,
- two counts of stealing,
- two counts of enter dwelling and commit,
- one count of attempted enter dwelling and commit,
- one count of assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed,
- one count of assault occasioning bodily harm,
- one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle with prior conviction,
- one count of driving without a licence,
- one count of fail to take reasonable care,
- one count of possess utensils,
- one count of armed robbery,
- one count of unlawful entry of vehicle for committing indictable offence,
- and one count of unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.
