Two men arrested after 8 hour manhunt

An eight-hour manhunt last week that spanned two cities, including Logan, has ended with the arrests of two men.

Police say two men allegedly armed with a weapon entered a Surfers Paradise property, took a key and stole a Mercedes-AMG at around 4.45 Wednesday (3 April) morning.

“The Mercedes was later sighted on the Gold Coast at approximately 8.30am, and Polair began monitoring the vehicle,” a police statement said.

The car was tracked to a Colwill Crescent property at Wolffdene at around 12.35pm.

Two men were taken into custody nearby a short time later.

A 30-year-old Wolffdene man has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, fail to take reasonable care and precautions in respect of syringe or needle, and possess property suspected of having been acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence, and two counts each of possessing dangerous drugs, and possess utensils or pipes that had been used.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today, April 4.

A 41-year-old Heritage Park man was issued a notice to appear on one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, possess utensils or pipes that had been used, and possess tainted property.

He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 1.

Investigations led police to the discovery of a second vehicle they say “is suspected to have been stolen earlier from Runaway Bay”.

Police say investigations continue.
