About 100 friends and neighbours of Stanley Obi have gathered at the New Beith house where his body was doused in fuel and lit in a tragic case of domestic violence.
Mr Obi died later that night, inducing a flow of tributes to a man who “will be greatly missed”.
Police alleged his former partner Sarah Mudge, who also died after the house went up in flames, lit the fire after dousing the property with petrol.
Investigations are ongoing, but it is believed the pair took out domestic violence orders against each other within the past 12 months.
Neighbours attempted to help Mr Obi, 33, who was a nurse and care manager for Aveo Group’s Newstead retirement community.
The tragedy again prompted questions about police response to domestic violence.
“We need a society that values equality, that is respectful,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
“In terms of the police response, I am sure that there will be a thorough coronial inquest into this.”
