Transport expansion plans promised

An on demand public transport service trialled in Logan is promised to be expanded to Forestdale if the state government is re-elected.

Already the Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) service operates in select suburbs across the city.

DRT is a pre-booked, shared service designed to make getting around your local area easier.

For just 50c, locals can use the service to get to their local bus or train station, or to certain local facilities such as shops, medical centres and libraries.

Algester MP Leeanne Enoch, an advocate of the program, said her government backed better public transport for Logan.

“Passengers love the convenience of Demand Responsive Transport and I’m incredibly proud to announce we will expand the trial to Forestdale if re-elected next month.

“It’s a convenient and cost-effective way to get around, and with almost 60,000 trips completed last financial year, the numbers speak for themselves.”

The service currently operates in Boronia Heights, Carbrook, Chambers Flat, Cornubia, Eagleby, Hillcrest, Logan Reserve, Loganholme, Munruben, Park Ridge, Park Ridge South, Rochedale South, Shailer Park, and Tanah Merah.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish said services like DRT support more sustainable public transport in suburbs across Logan.

“50c fares has been a massive success, and services like Demand Responsive Transport ensure more people can connect to public transport or other services in their area affordably and efficiently,” he said.

“Providing connections to high frequency bus routes, heavy rail and light rail is vitally important to increasing the use of public transport and reducing congestion on our roads.”
