Tireless efforts of volunteers receive accolades

On Saturday May 13, I was delighted to celebrate the winners of this year’s City of Logan Volunteer Awards.

Since 1988, these awards have recognised and celebrated the hard work and dedication of volunteers in our city.

Volunteers are the backbone of our community, and their unwavering commitment to making a positive difference is truly inspiring.

From 32 very worthy nominations, we acknowledged five award winners as part of the breakfast celebration attended by more than 400 people.

This year, Carole Wilson and John Mulraney were named as joint winners of the Frank Lenz Memorial Award for Volunteer of the Year.

Their tireless efforts within the community have not gone unnoticed.

John’s 30 years of dedication to the Rotary Club of Beenleigh, including his various roles as Club President and Secretary, has been instrumental in fulfilling the organisation’s mission.

Carole has volunteered at the Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre for almost a decade following many years as a supporter of the organisation.

She has managed the organisation’s Community Garden program, sourced fundraising to support Centre programs and services, and has coordinated and provided emergency and dignity packs from donated goods to those in need.

Other awards announced at the breakfast were:

  • Quota Beenleigh Inc won the Davida Steele Memorial Award for Outstanding Community Organisation.
  • Bella-Marie Anderson, from Springwood, was awarded the Youth Volunteer of the Year Award for her work in supporting people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and domestic violence at outreach organisation ‘Touch of Hope’.
  • Logan Village’s Spencer Robinson received the Spirit of Logan Award for his commitment to Parkrun Australia and Clean Up Australia Day.

I congratulate all the award winners and on behalf of my councillor team and the City of Logan, I extend my sincere thanks to all volunteers who support our community through their hard work and dedication.

You make a huge difference every day and thoroughly deserve the recognition.

I trust you enjoyed the breakfast celebration as much as I enjoyed being with you.
