Thousands of more homes headed for Logan’s highest-growth area

More than 1600 lots have been approved for development in the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area.

These new homes will allow for up to 4500 residents to move into the area, the Queensland government claims.

Known as ‘PDAs’, priority development areas are state-managed areas of high growth.

In Logan, there are two: at Flagstone and Yarrabilba.

The Flagstone PDA, which encompasses 7188 hectares west of Jimboomba, will be home to 51,500 dwellings and up to 138,000 people once complete in 30-40 years.

The Yarrabilba PDA is smaller, covering 2222 hectares between the Plunkett Conservation Park to the east, Waterford Tamborine Road to the west and Plunkett Road to the south.

It is planned to include 20,000 dwellings and up to 50,000 people once fully developed in 20-30 years.

Troy Thompson, a director of the company developing Flagstone, Peet, said the extra homes approved by the Queensland government last week were an important step.

“Flagstone is already home to 10,000 residents, growing by 40 new families every month,” Mr Thompson said.

“This approval enables us to expand the range of housing and amenities available to future residents and ensure the ongoing development of 500 new homes in Flagstone each year.

“We’re proud to build another new precinct that is committed to creating a thriving community where people want to live – for the Greater Flagstone PDA, this includes incorporating 330 hectares of green open space.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the government also gave the greenlight for about 780 new homes in Brisbane’s inner suburbs of Indooroopilly and Milton.

“Queensland has the lowest home ownership rate in Australia” Mr Bleijie said.

“Our Government is taking decisive action, unlocking more than 2400 lots for new homes across south-east Queensland.

“Construction in Flagstone – one of south-east Queensland’s fastest-growing regions – has already commenced.

“In Brisbane’s inner-city suburbs, we’re delivering affordable housing under build-to-rent models, reflecting our focus on delivering a mix of new housing options.”

He said the government’s plan was to deliver homes for Queensland’s diverse and growing population – including first-home buyers and those wanting to downsize.

“The LNP is unlocking land for new housing, building better communities, boosting home ownership, easing pressure on rents and helping vulnerable Queenslanders put a roof over their head.”
