A taxi driver who is always polite, courteous and helpful.
That is how Graham Brady, who lives ate Eagleby’s Ruby Gardens complex, described the driver known as Clay.
Real name Feroz, Clay, who drives a maxi taxi for 13Cabs, always takes passengers’ needs into consideration and their comfort is always a priority according to Mr Brady.
“For example, he avoids speed bumps, avoids heavy acceleration and other things when my wife rides in her wheelchair,” Mr Brady said.
“We have been riding with Clay in his maxi for more than three years now and his customer service is consistently excellent.”
But it’s not just Mr Brady who sings Clay’s praises with myriad Ruby Gardens’ residents posting similar comments on the village’s Facebook page.
Clay, 44, who emigrated from Fiji 20-plus years ago, is a man who obviously loves his job.
Before driving his maxi cab six years ago he drove a regular cab for four years and before that he was a courier driver.
“I like to serve the community and a lot of my work is with older people who I enjoy talking to,” Clay said.
“Everyone deserves to be respected and I always provide service with a smile.”
Around fifty percent of his clients are elderly and he drives many of them on a regular basis – often to medical appointments and to do their shopping.
“Some people have trouble getting into the cab and I use the wheelchair ramp to make it easy for them to get in,” Clay said.
He does many trips to the PA and Greenslopes hospitals as well as to hospitals on the Gold Coast.
One of Clay’s regulars is a 92-year-old man who uses the cab to go shopping.
Some customers have trouble carrying shopping bags into their homes and Clay makes a point of helping them.
“It only takes a moment and I enjoy making their lives a little bit easier,” he said.
Clay has had first aid training but he has never had to provide that kind of help.
One Facebook contributor said she has been with Clay four around four years.
“He’s an amazing taxi driver and very helpful and courteous, always gives a wave if he sees you in the street,” she said.
Which pretty well sums it up – Clay is a good bloke and a top taxi driver.
