It’s time for men to dust off their lederhosen and women their dirndis.
Beenleigh Historical Village is doing Octoberfest a little bit differently this year – with all the dancing and frivolity that comes with a good old-fashioned German party.
But without the alcohol.
Traditionally, that’s how Octoberfest was done, and the village wants families to celebrate the heritage of the museum alongside all things Deutch.
Gates for the big day open at 8.30am with entertainment starting around 10am.
There will be German food, non-alcoholic beverages – including beer – from Sobah, and entertainment that includes the Alpenrosen Dancers, Liederkranz Choir, face painting and more.
The spirit of Oktoberfest is strong, according to event representative Geoff Kerkow.
“We’ll be celebrating with German dancers, a German choir and entertainment for the whole family,” Mr Kerkow said.
The Beenleigh Brass Band will kick off the program and then the day will continue with the Alpenrosen Folk Dancers and Bell Ringers from the German Club in Brisbane.
There will be appearances from the Liederkranz Choir, Zoltans Duo German Band, The Best Before Quartet and Hamptons Wines Band.
Children are looked after with an animal farm, face painting and a jumping castle.
Market stalls will also be a feature of the day.
Gotzinger small goods will be available to try.
Some of the village exhibits will be open on the day, so it will be a great time to discover the many attractions, Mr Kerkow said.
